President Donald Trump wants $2.6 billion in cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency, a White House official said Monday.
The president announced the proposed cuts to EPA on Twitter, saying that he would reduce the agency’s budget by $1.3 billion, but he didn’t specify what he would cut.
Trump also called on Congress to pass legislation that would fund the EPA through 2019.
He also called for the creation of an agency that would be independent of the executive branch.
The cuts would come on top of the $2-billion cut that the Trump administration has already made to the agency.
The agency is required to submit a budget to Congress each year.
